How can a place be investigated? And what happens when visitors continue that investigation themselves?

Inventur is a multimedia installation and an open investigative system that explores the possibilities and limitations of documenting and reconstructing a site. The work is based on an abandoned inn that was investigated over several months. Its spatial and material traces were translated into different media through 3D scans, photos, dust, dirt and scent samples, as well as digitized audio recordings found on cassette tapes.

Within this curated system, visitors take on the role of investigators themselves. They can listen, smell, read, browse digital databases and recombine physical elements. Rather than presenting a fixed narrative, the installation creates an open process of comparing, connecting and interpreting. The individual fragments can continually be reconfigured, generating multiple possible readings of the site.
