In deiner Nähe

Video work

Excerpt · © Iris Kienzl

In deiner Nähe is based on approximately 150 letters found in an abandoned apartment building. The letters, written by a man to a woman between 1943 and 1946, document a development from polite affection to obsessive fixation. For this work, selected original passages were taken verbatim but assembled into a compositionally condensed single text to more clearly reveal the dynamics of control and intrusion.

The video combines this textual condensation with 3D scans of the site. The rooms are visible only within the cone of light from a virtual flashlight, creating an interplay of concealment and revelation. The flaws and blurring of the scans are deliberately preserved, reinforcing the fragmentary atmosphere.

Through the combination of documentary traces and artistic interpretation, the work explores questions of transgression, power relations and the relationship between private history and spatial legacy.
